Microbiome analysis in a pediatric cohort of inflammatory bowel disease supports the rational of fecal microbiome therapy

چکیده
Aims In recent years, the role of gut flora in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn ́s Disease (CD) has become focus of intense research. The working hypothesis is that an altered microbiota causes mucosal inflammation in a genetically susceptible individual. Understanding the microbiota ́s role in the pathogenesis of the disease is essential for new IBD treatments aimed in shifting the intestinal bacterial flora back to a physiological homeostasis, particularly relevant for children not responding to conventional therapy.

Effects of Probiotics and Prebiotics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) including most important forms; Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC); are chronic diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract with unclear etiology and pathology. The role of gut microbiota has recently been considered as major a factor, since altered microbiome or "dysbiosis" is a key player in the protracted course of inflammation in IBD. Howeve...
متن کاملClinical and Fecal Microbial Changes With Diet Therapy in Active Inflammatory Bowel Disease
GOAL To determine the effect of the specific carbohydrate diet (SCD) on active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). BACKGROUND IBD is a chronic idiopathic inflammatory intestinal disorder associated with fecal dysbiosis. Diet is a potential therapeutic option for IBD based on the hypothesis that changing the fecal dysbiosis could decrease intestinal inflammation. STUDY Pediatric patients with ...
متن کاملFecal microbial transplant for the treatment of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease
The role of fecal microbial transplant (FMT) in the treatment of pediatric gastrointestinal disease has become increasingly popular among pediatric practitioners, patients, and parents. The success of FMT for the treatment of recurrent Clostridium difficile infection (RCDI) has bolstered interest in its potential application to other disease states, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). FMT...
متن کاملComparison of the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium Population in Fecal Microbiome of Celiac Disease Patients on Gluten-Free Diet With Healthy Subjects
Aims Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic autoimmune disease triggered by gluten and other environmental factors, such as intestinal microbiota in genetically predisposed persons. This study aimed to evaluate the composition of the target gut microbiota population in patients with CD and to compare it with healthy individuals. Methods & Materials In this case-control study, Bifidobacterium and Lac...
متن کامل16S sequencing and functional analysis of the fecal microbiome during treatment of newly diagnosed pediatric inflammatory bowel disease
The human microbiome is of considerable interest to pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (PIBD) researchers with 1 potential mechanism for disease development being aberrant immune handling of the intestinal bacteria. This study analyses the fecal microbiome through treatment in newly diagnosed PIBD patients and compares to cohabiting siblings where possible. Patients were recruited on clinical...
